Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Daily Star revealed that Danny Ings was on Tottenham’s shortlist of candidates to replace the injured Harry Kane.
Jose Mourinho’s talisman looks set to be out until April after suffering a torn hamstring – coincidentally against Southampton at St Mary’s – and the north Londoners are attempting to find a replacement in the window this month.
Along with Ings, Lyon striker Moussa Dembele and AC Milan hitman Krzysztof Piątek are also believed to be on Spurs’ radar this month.
The Southampton No.9 has enjoyed an exquisite campaign so far, netting 14 Premier League goals in 22 appearances to sit just three strikes behind top-scorer Jamie Vardy on 17 – Ings is the joint-second highest goalscorer in the division this term alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marcus Rashford and Tammy Abraham.
It would be a real punch in the gut for Ralph Hasenhuttl if his star man was poached from him this month, especially seeing as Ings has been responsible for 14 of the Saints’ 27 goals in the league this term.
Let’s see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to The Daily Star’s update…
To kick off the reaction, these two fans were both on the same page in chatting about what would happen to Ings when Kane does eventually return to full fitness.
One supporter named Daniel suggested that the former Liverpool forward would sit on the bench and “rot” when Kane returns, while Stuart followed suit in saying the “problem” is that Ings would be a mere “impact sub” when Tottenham’s No.10 returns.
Elsewhere, these two fans were not sold on this report from The Daily Star, expressing doubt over the chances of the transfer materialising.
Adam said “never going to happen” whereas another supporter described the news as “mad” before also saying that it is “never happening”.
Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Lastly, the word “lazy” was used to describe The Daily Star’s report by Jordan, with ‘E Biz’ also questioning why the 27-year-old Ings would move to Tottenham, calling the north London outfit a “smaller club” as well as a “proper mess” – ouch.
